We get to schedule Max's surgery!!

So we saw the cardiologist this morning. Everything looks good; Max is big enough; she said we could schedule his surgery!!! We are sooo relieved. The surgery department should be calling in the next week to give us a date. Woohoo!
{the picture is of the EKG wires & stickers today}
He now weighs 13.2 lbs and is 24 inches long :)

Wonderful people

Happy 67th birthday to my awesome mom today! We celebrated by lunching at Cafe Rio alongside a bouquet of cow balloons (she LOVES cows).

And our wonderful friend, Vicki, made Max this sweet blanket. (She made one for Piper, too, when she was born. Piper calls it her "bicki" blankie.) She made it in the Colorado Avalanche colors {LOVE IT} to match the office-turned-nursery decor.

Special Olympics

Somewhere in the crazy week before adopting Max, my Mom called and was so excited. She said, "I just realized something. Now when we volunteer for Special Olympics, we'll have our own athlete to cheer on!"

Guess who loves swimming?!

.... NOT Max!

We went over to Grandma's condo to swim today. Piper swam for 3 hours straight. Max looked so cute in his swim trunks. Too bad he didn't like the water. He just wanted to snuggle with Grandma.

I think he forgave me though...

Days of 47 Parade Float Preview

I was watching the news Monday night and they were doing a story on the upcoming parade on Friday {for all you non-Utahns, we celebrate Pioneer Day on July 24th with parades, fireworks, and a day off work}. They display all the floats for two days (indoors!!) and you can walk around and look at them prior to the parade. Apparently they do this every year, but I had no idea. Piper was watching and saw a ballerina atop one of the floats, and of course, got very excited. So I decided we'd better go {because there is no way we're sitting out in the heat and actually watching the parade outside, especially when it's televised.}

I somehow didn't get a picture of the front of the ballerina, but you get the idea...
Some neighbors had also planned on going, so of course, the girls had to hook up.
We waited in LONG lines for the face painting and balloons. Piper wanted a green flower......so that's what she got. She was thrilled.Max doesn't look so thrilled. He didn't get a balloon or his face painted. Sorry Max. Maybe next year. Piper LOVED the floats. You would have thought she was at Disneyland. She was screaming, jumping up and down with excitment, pointing at all the cool things on the floats.
"Look! Look! There's a fish. Do you see the fish!?!?!!" She would not go near Insectisaurus.
But she did admire Bob from afar. I thought this one was kinda funny.

I think we have a new Pioneer Day tradition - skip the parade and see the floats on Tuesday!

One liners

Piper seems to be taking after her dad on the senseless trivia front. She has been spouting one liners at us lately. The other day we were in the car (yes, driving to Redbox to get another movie) and she says from the back seat, "Hey Mom. I have to tell you something. Red is not your color." Huh? I did happen to be wearing a red tshirt. It took me a while to realize she was quoting a line from Happily N'Ever After: Snow White.

Then the other night she went into Max's room where Steve was feeding Max, and says, "I broke your ipod." Steve about flipped out thinking she was referring to his Blackberry Storm. I quickly let him know she had just finished watching Madagascar 2 for the hundreth time. And to top things off, on Saturday, she affectionately looked over at me and said, "I love you Fatso!" Thank you Madagascar hippos :)

And if she randomly shouts "Squirrel!" at you, she's not completely crazy. She and Steve had a daddy-daughter date to see UP recently.

Happy Birthday Georgia Peach

Our puppy, Georgia, is a year old today. And I think she is finally growing out of some of her puppy naughtiness. I haven't seen her chew on the kitchen table legs in days! Seriously. Maybe we'll really be able to get a new couch in 2010.
It's a good thing she's just so dang cute!

When we got her, she was about 3 months old...
And now, she's a crazy 43 lb skateboarding tank....

Happy Birthday Georgia!
{Piper wants me to make her a dinosaur cake.}

Convo with Dad

Finally! Daddy & Max were chatting it up tonight & I finally got it on video :)

{I'm thoroughly embarrassed by our plaid couch. Our puppy chewed up our 'good' couch and it went to the dump. So we got this used couch for the interim until the puppy is over her chewing!}

Summer in the front yard

We have these great neighbors (who are sadly moving at the end of the month) who keep Piper entertained for hours. Today they gathered in our front yard (along with their cousins) for Tootsie Pops & a dip in the kiddie pool. A bit crowded, but nobody seemed to mind.

Early Intervention

So we had our 'evaluation' last week with DDI Vantage for early intervention. Max is an automatic qualifier because of the Ds, but it gives everyone a starting point to build a therapy program for him. Max charmed the three evaluators with his smiles and coo's, while Piper was slightly obnoxious vying for some of their attention and wanting to play with their 'toys'. Max is a bit delayed in his gross and fine motor skills, but they were very impressed with his coo's and alertness. We need to give him more tummy time and offer small toys to get him to reach out for them. I asked about signing, but they said not to worry about it until he's 6-8 months old. That's about it.

He loves looking at himself in the mirror above his swing... and he does grab for the lion on occasion :)

Why is the Tooth Fairy so cool?

So Piper was giving me grief about not wanting to brush her teeth today. Remember the good ol' days when she would stand at the sink for an hour?! Not anymore. I blame the Tooth Fairy. As she was telling me how she didn't want to march into the bathroom and brush her teeth, I told her she'd better, or they would rot right out of her little head. To that she replied, "Cool, then I can put them under my pillow and the tooth fairy will come and leave me a coin!"
I know, we watch too much tv at our house.

Earth

We went to the dollar movies tonight. We saw Monsters & Aliens earlier this week, so we opted for 'Earth'. It was really cool. Lots of cute baby animals that Piper loved. And they did a nice job of cutting away just as the prey was caught by the hunter. But Piper kept asking, "Did that wolf eat that deer? Did that shark eat that seal? Finally, as new animals were introduced into the movie, she just kept asking, "What do those elephants eat? What do those lions eat?" Even with a few 'chasing dinner' scenes, she really enjoyed it, and I'm sure we'll be seeing it a few more times next week...

(Max appropriately slept through both his first two movie outings.)

Kami Alkire came to our house for a photo shoot a couple of weeks ago. She posted a few proofs on her blog... I stole a couple for a sneak peek on mine.

Grabby hands

Any advice as to how to keep the oxygen line in his nose, not in his mouth?
{at night I do put socks on his hands}

3 months, 6 years, and the 4th

It was a numbers week I guess.

Max turned 3 months old!

Steve & I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. {no pictures of dinner}

And we had some family & a few neighbors over to BBQ before the fireworks. {we BBQ in the front yard since there's too much doggy doo in the backyard}

This is the newest neighbor - baby Noah - 11 days old. He makes Max look like a giant.

Lined up ready for the fireworks display.

After the street display we headed over to the school to watch the 'real' fireworks over Sugarhouse Park.
Happy 4th!
