Ice Castles

We hit the ice castles in Midway right before they closed. The weather has been a bit warm and they are melting. Very drippy. But still very cool. They are made from individual icicles. At night they are lit up from within with colored lights (but there is also a really long wait to get in the castles in the evenings, so we opted for the daylight).

Elsa and Anna were there!

There was even a tunnel slide!

Ch Ch Ch Changes...

So, we decided to scrap the plans (that yes, we paid for) to do a second story addition to the house. Instead, we are just going to update what we have, taking one project at a time. We started with living room floors and plumbing. Steve doesn't really do power tools, so my mom came over and helped me install the new floors. A month ago. I finally got the molding put back on this week! But the drywall repair in the basement from the plumbing is still ongoing. But oh how nice it is to take a hot shower with killer water pressure. And I haven't needed the plunger once since the new toilet was installed. Piper was in the bath a few days after the plumbing and asked if this was how the water was suppose to sound. She had never taken a bath that was being filled with a faucet with actual water pressure - poor kiddo. Max can't figure out why we turn off the faucet after 5 minutes - he's used to having the water on the whole 30 minute bath (and the bath still wasn't full). Gotta love living in a house built in 1927 ;)

Not the smartest idea to let the planks acclimate in a room that Max had access too. Two full boxes ended up with dented corners. Oops.

Then, I worked on the bathroom a bit more. The plumbers installed a new toilet and vanity. The floors I stained started to peel due to my lack of proper prep before staining...
So I leveled out the deep grout troughs and laid new vinyl tile and grouted it.

Then for a new backsplash... with mirrors so Max can see himself since he's too short to see in the big mirror.

And last, but not least, stripes. Thank you frog tape.

Pajama Party

Piper came home from school one day and exclaimed that she was planning a party. It was going to be the event of a lifetime! I stopped her in her excitement to ask a few questions, assuming the party was going to be at our house.... ya know, the who what where why stuff.
Turns out, the big event, was a pajama party, with one other friend, to watch her favorite DVD, Dolphin Tale ;)
The kicker, she wanted me to take her and her friend shopping to find matching dolphin pajamas. Hmmm. I asked her how much money she had, and she replied, "Well, I have $3 and Grace has $60." (Nice to have rich friends, eh?)
I told her we could have the party, but it was probably going to be impossible to find dolphin pajamas here in Utah in January. BUT, I really kind of wanted to try out my new sewing machine, so I suggested we go find some type of sea life fabric and sew a couple pairs of pajama pants and they could wear white t-shirts. Of course that wasn't going to work in her book because the t-shirts would be from different stores, and therefore, wouldn't really be matching!
So off to the fabric store we went, and found some super cute fabric and pajama pattern, and well, I'm a sucker and got fabric for the top too.

Tada. My first project completed!

And the party was a success.

Stinker!

Max discovered he can reach the hotel lock on the door if he scoots a chair over...
So we put a chain lock up a bit higher. Hope we don't have a fire and need to get out quickly some night!

Piper's Class Devotional

Piper shared a thought in their last devotional...
"He that riseth late must trot all day, and shall scarce overtake his business at night."

Ice Skating

Piper & I had a little ice skating outing a few weeks ago. She's been begging to go ice skating for two years. We finally went.
She was a bit terrified at first and clung to the rail for dear life.

She fell a few times.

But finally got the hang of it.

Tada!

and a little video...
