More school

The first day of school, continued....
I picked up Piper from school on her first day. She was just as thrilled as when I dropped her off.

Seeing her friend Grace come out of school (who is not in her class, but at the same school). Hugs.

She was wired after school. She kept jumping around and asking when tomorrow would come, because she was ready to go back. We called Daddy and both Grandma's to tell them about her day. I was nervous because she really didn't know anyone in her class. But she came home telling me about her new buddy Mia who she sits next too. She does know a couple of other girls at the school and they do get to have recess together. So she was happy about that, too.
We were getting lunch ready in the kitchen and she said, "But I didn't learn how to read today!" She was so bummed. I assured her she has all year to learn!

Her call to Daddy:

Buddy Walk 2011

We attended our third Buddy Walk Saturday.
Rachel Coleman and the Signing Time gang was there again.

Max was mesmerized by Rachel.

He couldn't see well enough from the stroller, so he found a seat higher up.

We met a new friend, Alyssa.

And saw many old friends, as well as some that seem like old friends thanks to blogging. {Kenzee - the pic I took of Gage was messed up :( }
Anya.

Camden.

Justin.

Mia.

Morgan and Mia.

Piper was a little intimidated by the shark at first.

Daisy & Bree.

Frankie and Henry.

The train was there again. Max didn't really dig it this year...

He did love the toilet paper toss game. He's had lots of practice at home :)

When we got home I realized we hadn't taken a group photo. Steve was already off at work, but I told Piper we should take one on the porch. She replied, "We can't. Rachel Coleman isn't here." We did it anyway :)

{trying to upload videos.... blogger not cooperating today}

Ist Day of School!

Yes, we got up extra early for a few photos.

She was soooo excited. She ran most of the way.

Not sure what happened to my camera settings - eek (turns out I accidentally bumped the dial to full program mode - ugh). When one of her teachers asked her what her brother's name was, she replied, "Max. And I know how to spell it. M-A-X." Sassy.

I kept asking if she was at all nervous for school to start and she said no every time. We put a family picture in her backpack in case she did get nervous and needed to see us. Right before I left I asked again if she was nervous and she said, "Just a little." And then ran off to the puzzle table.
Yesterday, I told her that if she saw anyone alone on the playground looking lonely or nervous, she should go invite them to play with her and her friends. When she said her prayers last night, she asked, "Bless me that I can do good in school tomorrow and find someone who is sad and help them be happy." Ahh.

Milk - FINALLY!

Hallelujah! Max has decided to drink. A week after surgery and 4 days after being home from the hospital, he finally drank a bottle of milk last night before bed. And then another at the park this morning. And he had more than two wet diapers today.
I actually called his ENT yesterday thinking I should probably just take him back in for IV fluids. But he wasn't lethargic and still had tears and spit, so they said watch him for another day or two. Rough week.
Piper starts kindergarten in the morning, so I'm really glad we're not at the hospital!

Speaking of... isn't this how your kiddos sleep the night before school starts? Umbrella tent. Yep.

Tonsils & Adenoids Recap/Update

So Tuesday morning we headed up to PCMC to have Max's tonsils and adenoids out. 7am. He was a happy camper.

The surgery took about an hour. Dr. Smith also did a throat scope to check for reflux damage - all clear. And was looking to put tubes in his ears, but decided they really weren't needed.
10am - Day 1. PICU. Not so happy. Loritab induced sleep - wonderful :)

Max refused to drink, so we stayed another night, but got out of the PICU and headed up to the floor. Piper and Grandma came for a visit.

Piper loves it when Max is in the hospital because she gets to come and play. This day she made goo.

After 3 IV's and 3 days in the hospital without drinking anything but a few sips of my Diet Coke, we were ready to head home.... but Max was too dehydrated. So we stayed one more night on IV fluids.

Tried popsicles, slushies, milkshakes. Didn't want any of it. Applesauce and pudding were about it. Finally, they gave up on Max drinking and let us go home!!

We've been home for two days. Max has eaten, but still isn't big on drinking. He has had a few sips of chocolate milk, a few sips of regular milk, and 5 ounces of Diet Coke! If he doesn't pick it up, we'll be heading back for another IV.
This morning he ate some applesauce, then a piece of plain bread, then 2 chocolate chip muffins - but wouldn't touch his milk - seriously? How can milk be more sore to swallow than a muffin?! Funny kid.

I'll spare you the details of the roommate family from hell. Just, please, when you're sharing a room at the hospital, we know it's crappy enough just being there - try to be considerate. If you don't know how to use the tv volume, please ask your nurse... or at least turn the tv off at some point during the night ;)

Yesterday was Max's 2nd anniversary of open heart surgery. Happy Heart Day!
He came home from that in 6 days. Tonsils and adenoids - in the hospital for 4 - just sayin - it wasn't pretty.
